Why is a roller coaster the logo of Zane’s Foundation Inc?
Up the hills and down. We get up and start each day with a boom! We're off and riding! No time for coffee to give us that help. No time to wake up. We just need to wake up and go! Often the day starts when our child wakes up at 5 am and can't go back to sleep, or at 4 am, or at 7am. Weekend sleep-ins do not exist. We never know when the day will start. We would like a slow and easy day, but it never seems to happen. We go up the hills and down and around and before you know it, we are out of breath and exhausted. We are hoping for a rest but it doesn't seem to happen. And this is all before 8 am. Life never slows down. It's constantly moving fast! We crave boredom, but can't seem to find that either. It's a never ending ride. It's not unhappy; it's just a wild ride and we are on it! Our entire family is on this roller coaster ride!
This short story is from a parent with a child on the autism spectrum. This child was diagnosed at age 3 and is now a teenager. The parent is describing what a typical day is like in their family life.
